Woods Recognized for 20 Years
of Support to the National Center for State Courts
Williamsburg,
VA (Nov. 9, 2005) – The
Richmond law firm of McGuire Woods was recognized Oct. 28 by the Board
of Directors of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) for 20 years
of support to the NCSC, an organization dedicated to improving the
administration of justice through leadership and service to the state
courts. Deborah Russell, a partner in the firm’s
Richmond
office, is a longstanding
member of the NCSC Lawyers Committee. McGuire Woods joined a group of
more than 30 of
America
’s leading companies and law
firms that have achieved this special distinction.
The
law firm was presented with a Resolution of Appreciation at a
recognition luncheon in
Washington
,
D.C.
, which was attended by Chief
Justice of the United States John Roberts and hosted by Chief Justice of
Indiana Randall T. Shepard, chair of the NCSC Board. Curtis Barnette,
former chairman of Bethlehem Steel and current member of the NCSC’s
Board of Directors, presented the resolution.
The
National
Center
for State Courts,

, is a non-profit court reform
organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by
providing leadership and service to the state courts. The NCSC, founded
in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and former Chief Justice of
the United States Warren E. Burger, provides education, training, and
technology, management, and research services to the nation’s state
courts. The NCSC also is taking the lead on several key issues facing
the justice system. For example, it has established a major civil
justice initiative, a multi-year project that is examining best
practices in civil case management and how complex litigation procedures
can be improved. Other national initiatives being driven by the NCSC
include judicial selection reform and increasing citizen participation
in jury service.
