Course
Overview:
The Concluding Seminar is designed as a capstone experience in the development of managerial competence. Faculty and participants will explore how individual leadership and managerial styles impact working with others within the court as an organization and externally with the other branches of government. Using this framework, participants will undertake various problem-solving scenarios aimed at synthesizing the learning objectives of the five core courses.
In the Concluding Seminar, faculty members will guide participants in discussions on the nature of supervision, management, and leadership. Participants will debate the purposes of courts and analyze the changing nature of courts over time. Faculty will engage participants in discussion about the relationships of courts with the other branches of government. The experience culminates in a scenario of conflict resolution, the conflict caused by a financial crisis. The scenario provides an opportunity for participants to synthesize what they have learned in the prerequisite core courses to contemplate the independence of the judiciary and the separation of powers between the branches of government.
