RSS is an XML-based format designed for distributing news articles. You don't usually view them using your browser. Rather, you use special programs that periodically checks on a newsfeed, alerting you when there are new articles. There are three major categories of RSS readers:
Standalone Readers
These programs run in the background, periodically checking on newsfeeds. There are many available.

Plug-In Readers
These programs integrate with existing programs, such as Microsoft Outlook. These programs can list new news articles right alongside your e-mail and appointments.
Here's an example: NewsGator
PDA Readers
These programs typically have two parts. One program sits on your desktop computer. The other sits on your PDA. Every time you sync your PDA, the desktop program downloads the latest articles and passes them to the PDA program. The PDA program then lets you view the articles on your PDA.
Here's an example for Palm PDAs: Hand/RSS
Once you have installed an RSS Reader, you simply provide it with this URL: http://www.ncsconline.org/d_tech/CTB2/rss_feed.asp |
